Apartment rental in Panama City - price?

Hi everyone, new here and planning on spending a couple months in Panama

What should you expect to pay for a nicely furnished 2BR apartment in a nice area, nice building, in Panama City on a month to month basis? Please keep in mind it's currently rainy season right now too

Probably around 1500 or 1800-2000 if you don't sign a one-year lease. You will have a hard time finding month-2-month leases to my experience.

If something breaks when you live in the apartment, and they don't fix it right away, change the locks, stop paying and wait until they throw you out.

    Best wishes, Marcus

The amount of people in this country trying to make a quick short-sighted buck is amazing.

After 4 months of hell, I had to resort to calling the owner at 5 AM in the morning, scream and threaten with non-payments and attorney fights to get things moving.

Keep a close eye on what you sign and be completely ruthless if they don't comply. In Panama you have to go in for the kill right away. Don't be patient.

Hmmm that sucks... what was it that was broken?

I've lived in both Costa Rica and Colombia

In Colombia I had a shower that would stop spraying hot water after 2-3 minutes!!! Got extremely frustrating especially since I was enrolled in school and had to wake up extra early and could use a nice hot shower to wake me up.

No water whatsoever from 8 AM to 6 PM (for 4 months) ~roughly with horizon expanding each month. I work late with people in Europe and usually get up 11-ish. Before that no water 3-4 times a month with pressure getting lower each week. One block from Av. Balboa.

I am doing all repairs myself now and have no contact with the owner anymore. I send someone else for payment. Just collecting the receipts. When time comes to move out I hope to become the quintessential embodiment of Beelzebub.

    Any tips in that area?

    Tips in what area???

No water during those times for 4 months is crazy! I really hope I don't run into any problems like this for the few months I plan on being in Panama

In getting paid for the abuse by the owner....

Let me know in that case... I have an extra room that I could rent out for a few hundred/mnt to one person in case of an emergency for 1-2 months.

Well I'm looking for a rather large place for myself but I do appreciate the offer incase of an emergency

Getting paid for the abuse by an owner? Not very likely... but maybe getting free rent out of it would be possible

Look at Vacation Rentals by Owner

We found a two bedroom 1500 square foot apartment near Bingo 90 in Obarrio on VRBOŽ is Vacation Rentals By Owner. Great location. We are paying $835.00 for 7 nights including transportation from the airport. Maybe more than you want to pay but you may find something on this website or maybe you can get a better rate for a longer rental period. The apartment and building are great. Laptop, mobile phone, cable TV, land line for local calls, air conditioning, pool, gym, etc all included.

$835 a week or about $120 a night seems pretty reasonable for the size of the appartment plus all the facilities in the short term. The Veneto Hotel has to be around $170 a night nowadays.

I like the location of El Cangrejo and find Las Vegas Suites a great place for a few days, right above the Pomodoro restaurant which is open from breakfast to almost midnight and the Wine Bar is next door. Not the cheapest at $80 per night for a double, but a good size and very nicely re-furbished. They also put three suitcases in secure storage for me for $2 for a month. Best deal in the area is probably the Milan at around $59 a single but strange booking policies and have only ever once found a vacancy.
