Best places to live in Panama

Hi. My wife and I are planning a move to Panama and will be there is a few months to start the process. We know nothing about Panama's cities and would like some advise on the best places to live. We are seniors and would like to be near major medical and other modern conveniences for shopping etc., but want to be in a good area with low crime and good weather. We are not to concerned about price. We would prefer to be in some type of foothill environment if that is where the weather is most tolerable. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance. Bill

Unfortunately, you can't have it all in one place. You'd have to choose between "modern conveniences" and "were the weather is most tolerable." If you choose the former, Panama City is where you'll find the best medical facilties and shopping. San Francisco, Punta Paitilla, Marbella, Bella Vista and Punta Pacifica are low crime areas. If you choose the latter, you'll find the most pleasant weather in Boquete (the higher elevations), it has the most tolerable if not best weather.

My personal advice would be to head to the Boquete area. Beautfiul area, awesome temprature all year, only 30 min to great hospitals in David.

Paranoia in Panama- Perception vs. Reality

I begin to ask myself a couple of questions. One, “what is the goal of these authors, if their assertions are fallacious?” And two, “is Panama actually a safe and/or nice place to live?” (Additionally- “Am I so removed from reality that I do not see what should clearly be obvious everyday danger?”)

my wife and I are looking for the same thing. Let's stay in touch. I'd like to find a place to rent in Boquete for a couple of months in the Jan-Mar period to check out that area and the city of David. Be glad to share anything we find out and hope you might do the same. Jim Gordon and Laura Frisbie, Asheville, NC jimgkiss@charter.net
