All the hype, all the news, all the websites talk about Costa Rica. What made you decide on Panama? I would love to hear your reasoning.

Me too. I've visited Costa Rica a couple times and found it very nice, friendly, and expensive (at least day to day purchases; the infrastructure costs [housing, taxes, utilities] aren't bad). As I look for a place to live, Panama is becoming more and more interesting and I'd also appreciate the thoughts of others on why Panama over Costa Rica (and other places). Thanks.
CR has a far superior tourist industry, but Panama has far superior infrastructure (roads, hospitals, water, shopping, etc.) Many whom I've met here in Panama who moved from CR also cited the constant hassle of petty theft in CR as a reason -- you can't even leave your clothes outside to dry, or they'll be gone in a few hours.

My friend moved from CR to Panama 2 years ago, and he prefers CR. He says the people are alot friendlier than in Panama and less crime but then again, he lived in CR for an extensive amount of time...
I hope to visit one day, but until that day comes I can't really comment.
I personally moved to Panama because my parents are from here. I lived the majority of my life in the states and thought it would be good experience to live outside of the states for a few years. It has its up and downs, but I still love it!
