    Private Spanish teacher recommendations

    Hi All,

Even though I already have a decent knowledge of Spanish, I would like to hire a private (not looking for a school or institute) teacher with whom to work 1 or 2 hours a week.

If anyone has first hand knowledge of a quality teacher in Panama City, I would appreciate his/her contact details. Thanks in advance!

Javier Villamonte is excellent. Phone: +507 6761-9423.

(He has email, but I'd rather not post it here, in order to protect him from spammers...)

Because when you post someone's email -- including your own -- on the web, it is automatically picked up by thousands of spybot "harvesters," which turn around and add that address to the thousands of spam databases out there. That doesn't happen with phone numbers, because calling individual phone numbers costs money -- unlike sending out a million emails.

Do you recommend a private teacher over a language school?

I can do either/or... if you recommend language schools, which one is the best around here

I prefer a private teacher because (usually) it is more economical and arrangements can be more flexible in terms of time and place.

They should be about equal assuming in each case the teacher is qualified and experienced. Some institutes will claim to have a methodology and maybe their own textbook. Also, some institutes will be more intense with set programs (numerous hours per week), homestays, and even cultural field trips to utilize your Spanish.

In my case, I'm just looking for a decent, reasonably-priced tutor for an hour or 2 a week to brush up on some specific holes in my Spanish.

Hi all, this recommended teacher, Javier, has no space in his schedule for a new student. Any other quality Spanish teacher recommendations?

I used Rosetta Stone, works well if you are disciplined.

    Re: Private Spanish teacher recommendations

I'm also interested in finding a Spanish Tutor for February in the Coronado area.

We are looking for either a private tutor (like Roger hoping it will fit into our daily activities better) or a school with some flexability in terms of length of course and hours of operation. We will have a car so attending is no issue.

I am at a beginner level, and my boyfriend is intermediate. His native tongue is Italian so he substitutes the Italian word and uses jestures when he doesn't know the noun. I know more nouns but not the verbs. We do get by pretty well in Spanish speaking countries, but both of us want to improve and eventually become properly fluent.

Any suggestions for individuals or schools in the general Coronado area would be appreciated. I'd say up to 1/2 hour drive one way as a maxium for distance would be great.

Thanks! This is our first time to Panama and we are really excited be coming.
