Thread: looking for outdoor gear

I need to pick up some outdoor/camping gear and a couple of packs. Is there a decent place to buy these items in Panama?

If you are in Panama, look in the phone book under Deportes. Deportista is one place (with 4 branches). If you are in the US or Canada, buy it there.

I am in Costa Rica at the moment so I am hoping that Panama City might have what I need. I was thinking of getting some gear from home couriered there...what do you think is better?

Sorry, I don't know. Day packs are plentiful, but I've never seen frame packs, tents, cookstoves, etc. except on the backs of foreign tourists. That is not to say they don't exist -- I just haven't seen them in the sporting goods stores I've been to. I suggest you try your question on Thorn Tree forums (Lonely Planet) -- that's where all the backpackers hang out.
