    Buying a car in Panama

Happy New Year to you all,

    What about cars in Panama?
I am looking for a car(used I'd prefer) that I can use for about two years.
Can I find cars on encuentra24.com as well?
What is the popular car makers and brands in Panama?
Heard getting parts there is time consuming and costy.
So I am thinking to sell my Renault here and get a new one in Panama once I arrive in Feb. Any valuable tips would be appreciated.

This should really be a new thread...
    (Moderators, where are you???)

Yes, encuentra24.com is the electronic version of the classified ads for La Prensa, a major newspaper. You can find everything there.

Most popular cars are Japanese, Korean, Chinese: Toyota, Nissan, Kia, Hyundai, Suzuki. Parts for those are readily available. European cars are prevalent, but parts can be more difficult. American cars are somewhat rare, and parts are very difficult.

    Thanks for the quick reply.
I am currently living in Seoul, Korea and I need to move to Panama pretty soon, in mid Feb. I have never been to Panama and I am glad to know that there is such a great helpful community like this.

My first and the biggest concerns are housing and car issues there.
What areas would you recommend for living in Panama City?
I want a safe neighborhood with convenient facilities nearby.
My budget for monthly rent is somehwere between 2000 to 2200.

    Happy to everyone!
I think it deppends from what u will do here, if your daily duties are in city so better get some place in Obbario or El Congrejo, also for 2000 u can get a very nice apartment fully furnished!
If u have a car and u betetr preffer some place just a little outside town than it could be any of Urban locations, I preffer san Francisko!
And if somebody sais 2000 is not enough, dont believe!
    cheers

The only other likely place is craigslist panama. Other than that, you'll probably have to wait until you get here; the newspapers have some ads that don't appear online.

But are you sure you looked in the right section? I went on to encuentra24 and found 7 different R1 and R6 bikes -- and I didn't even look for other types.

Remember, this is a small town (1 million or so) and only the truly crazed ride bikes, due to killer sun, rain and potholes, pathological car/bus drivers, and theft. :-) There are lots of scooters running around (mostly pizza delivery), but most people who have the money for a superbike would instead invest in a car. So, your choices will be more limited than most European cities; the market is just not the same.
