    Best beaches

Hi! I have two questions: Are there any beaches close to Panama City? What are the best beaches in Panama in general? Would love to receive your comments.

Hi Traveler! Yes, in fact I found an article on the net entitled Beaches of Panama, here is a quote:

"With the exception of Chiriqui Highland, each region in Panama includes a unique and pleasurable beach destination. Only a few minutes drive from Panama City, you can find 80 kilometers of Pacific Beaches stretching from Punta Chame to Farallon offering resort hotels, sport facilities and restaurants for your enjoyment. Sailing enthusiasts can have their fun too in those quiet waters and visit the flower-island of Taboga or the enchanting Pearl Archipelago.

Beaches in PamanaJust as is any other country with beaches, there are specific beaches, for specific activities. Surfing, which is the most popular water sports in Panama, can be practiced in beaches such as El Palmar, Rio Mar, Punta Barco and Playa Venao. On the other hand, if you are trying to find a partner for that special party on Saturday, then you better go to Coronado or Farallon.

Nevertheless, the first one of these beaches is 50 miles away from Panama City, but from that point on there is nothing but sand, sun, and waves. You can even hop in a bus and travel to many of these beaches in a day or two."

The beaches of Panama - Central America

    Hope this helps!
    Laura

The beaches in Panama are really very beautiful! They don't compare to the beaches I've been to in the United States.

I had a nice cabana in Las Lajas last year. Big beautiful beach, $20/nite, door opened right up to the Pacific. I would live in a place like that full time.

On the Pacific side my favorite is Contadora, which is an island in the Pacific ocean, about 50 miles from Panama City. On the mainland, there is Coronado.
On the Caribbean side, there is Bocas del Toro, San Blas and Isla Grande.

I like the fact that you can stay overnight on a beach for almost nothing a nite. I saw cabanas on the beach for 8bucks, it is not luxury but it has a bathroom and a bed.

    Nice beaches in Las Perlas

The niciest beaches near Panama are probably in Las pErlas islands.
20 minutes prom Panama by Plane, you can visit Contadora, and the other nearest island like Saboga.
    Try these sites:
Panama-Isla Contadora, Ferien, holiday, vacances, vacaciones, fin de semana!
Isla Saboga : Archipiélago de Las Perlas, Panamá

Really? Actually I've never been, but I heard it a lot and I've never seen any photos as comparison. Why do you think that the beaches of Panama and the US can't be compared to each other? what is the difference between them?

With about a thousand miles of Caribbean and Pacific coastline, and hundreds of picturesque islands, Panama is a beach lover’s paradise.

The combination of white-sand, crystalline, tropical water and some fine accommodations attracted many locals and tourists alike.

    To Somulu:

Not sure of your comment below but are you possibly confusing Panama City in the country of Panama which is in Central America with the small town of Panama City in the state of Florida in the USA. (population about 37,000 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_City%2C_Florida ) ?

The two places are thousands of kilometers apart and in different countries.

Web searches of the two words Panama City often give results for both so you have to read the article carefully to make sure which result applies. This Forum is about Panama City in Panama, Central America.

    Hi Moderator

I am talking about Panama, the central American country and not the Panama city in Florida USA. To make this clear, there are 13 nice beaches in Contadora (one of the Pearl Islands) about 80 km from Panama City PANAMA.

    Hope this clarifies your doubts.

Panama has some the best beaches in the world. In fact, some of beaches in Panama are composed of white sand and blue waters which we would otherwise describe as scenery that we see in postcards. Most of these beautiful beaches are located in the Pacific side of Panama's coastlines which takes only a few hours drive from Panama City.

That's one of the reasons I think Panama it's such a great place to live. My ideal life HAS to have water near by, I think the sound of the waves it's the most relaxing sound in the world. I'm also a water sign so maybe it was "written in the stars".
Also, my favorites hobbies are sailing and scuba diving... so color me happy

Can any one suggest me a beach close to the Panama City which is clean, safe and not too much crowded? I am considering to visit Las Perlas Islands, as many of my friends gave a good opinion about the beaches there.

Anyone heard of a new coastal road along Caribbean side being built?

We are looking at buying an ocean front lot on the Caribbean side but it seems there's no road to get to it. The price for the lot is really cheap though. The Real Estate agent we talked to said there is a new road being built along the coast. (in addition to the new highway from Panama to Colon.) Anyone heard of a new road being built along the Caribbean side of the country? Also, is there a bridge or a way to get across the canal on the Caribbean side? It looks to me like there is no way to cross the Canal on the Caribbean side of Panama. Any info would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

You're in Panama. I would go to Vegas and bet in a slot machine before I bet that a road is going to be built is anywhere until they show up with the pavement trucks.

And you're taking your real estate agent's word on this? That's crazy.

If you can't access the property TODAY, I suggest that you FAGETABOUDIT!

    Hi Sable:

There is a way to get across the canal on the Caribbean side. You can get across on the Gatun Locks. As far as I know there is no new road being built along the coast.
On the other hand they are fixing the road to go to San Blas. I was there a couple of weeks ago and you can get to San Blas in a stock 4X4 vehicle now. It takes about two hours. The problem is that you can not buy land there. In my opinion, San Blas has the most beautiful beaches in Panama.
