Check Panama's history. For most of it's recent history, it was a virtual American colony. Many Americans and people of American descent live in Panama. John McCain, one of the candidates for the November American elections was born in and spent much of his early years in Panama. The currency is American. etc etc etc

In this case, however, it's not an "official" celebration but rather American residents organizing their own July 4 celebrations.

where on the causeway is the Yacht club? I know I can just tell a cab, but we'll already be in the area and I need to know which end it's at. Thank you.

A different perspective...

Panama "grew-up" - if you will - with the U. S. (occupation in the Canal Zone 1903 - 1999) and Uncle Sam remains a tacit "big brother" to this day... As you may (or may not know) Panama has no army (thanks in part to the "Operation Just Cause"), for the sake of argument (and Lord forbid), let's say Colombia (for e.g.) invades Panama - guess who's sending in the marines...

That (also) is why Panama observes (not necessarily "celebrates") July 4th. Be baffled no more...
