    Hi dsc,

"Linea blanca" = fridge, stove, sometimes also dishwasher, microwave or washing machine.

Sometimes you'll find someone who is willing to rent an apartment for less than a year, or on a rare occasion on month to month basis, but usually a contract is signed for one year. If you you want to leave before the year is up, the usual term is that you have to notify the apartment owner two months in advance and that you will lose your deposit.

If you want to live a comfortable life in Panama, you should plan about $2000 a month for your accommodation and living expenses. though this varies from person to person and the way of living of each individual. People can live for somewhat less amount as well but they might not be able to enjoy all the modern facilities that one needs in todays world.

From what I understand the rent is constantly going up, I know people that are saying that they used to pay around 500 per month few years ago but now it's closer to 1,500. What happens once you sign a contract? Can the owner increase the rent as he pleases or are there specific requirements?

Is it possible to rent in Panama City smaller studio appartment for around 1-2 month time, or need to to a longer contract?
Or insteed renting, it is better to stay in a small hotel, maybe on a discounted rate?
I plan to use the place more like a base to leave excess staff...

ps: sorry, i didnt start a new thread for this.

You can get a short-term studio or apartment, they will be more expensive then long term renting but it's still better then the hotel price. Or you might want to place adds asking if someone is willing to let you use their place when they are away (visiting friends or family).

I have an apartment for rent from April 2009

I bought this apartment because I was in Panama for a whole year (2008), and plan to spend more time there in the future.

But, for the next couple of years am back in Australia, so I built a website just for my apartment.

Please visit www.rent-apartment-panama.com to see it, and please contact me if you know someone looking for a good safe place to stay in a good location in Panama city.

    THANKS!
    Vern

    1800-2000 per month

Our college, who just moved to Panama from Niguragua, has been looking for apartments for a few months, he saw mine and said I could get 1800 today. If I waited, 2000 per month is what I'd get.

So, Im asking 1890 right now.

    Cheers,
    Vern

I landed in Panama and stayed initially in a hotel for a few weeks while I looked around with the help of real-estate agents.

I own a small scooter and rode around an knocked on the doors of the real-estate agents. They are all so busy, it was still even hard to get them involved.

Finally, after a few weeks I rented a commericial property, for a project (the reason for being in Panama), and then moved into the commercial property while the business was setup (which was a laboratory for DNA).

FInding an apartment to rent was so hard, that I eventually just decided to buy something, if I could find something close to my commerical property.

It took about 3 months, before I found this apartment, which I have had for about a year and a half now.

I'm surprised it's not rented already, it's been a few weeks or so, although people are coming to look, it's not yet listed a real-estate agent.

Wow I didn't realize it would be so hard to rent an affordable apartment! Thanks.
