Thumbs up About the famous Panama Hat

The Panama Hat is a stylish, elegant light-colored and light-weight hat made from the plaited leaves of a palm tree. This hat, worn by many and often seen on tourists, is made in Ecuador, not Panama.

While the Oxford English Dictionary cites a use of the term as early as 1834, the Panama Hat became widely associated with Panama during the construction of the Panama Canal. Its popularity exploded when US President Teddy Roosevelt visited the Canal and proudly wore a Panama Hat.

That looks just like one of those hats that rich retirees would wear at resorts and such. I'd love to wear one in Panama.

Yeah it does look like a hat for the rich. But it is indeed very stylish, however, I wouldn't wear it on a daily basis. I'm not a big fan of hats...

Anyway, that was a nice and interesting fact. Next time I see someone wearing a Panama Hat I'll be able to identify it and even be able to give a bit of history on it lol.

Looks pretty nice and it really seems to suit more for people who are relaxing on a beach or such. Never knew this is known as Panama hat.
