Do people ever get banned from Panama? What type of offenses would get a person banned?

Do you know anyone who was banned? For what reason?

I think they can ban you if you overstay and if they catch you inside the country (i.e. not at the airport). I read of a case of that happening, an American being banned forever because he overstayed, but I don't know anyone personally.

Oh really? Just for overstaying? That's a shame because I think they only give you 30 days on a tourist visa.
