Trustworthy lawyer

Hi everyone! Can anyone recommend a professional and trustworthy lawyer in Panama City? I'm considering buying property there, so I'd need someone experienced with real estate and property laws.

Fast reply appreciated!

I don't have a particular recommendation, but for foreigners it's often best to go with one of the large firms that have a reputation to lose. They charge more but they won't screw you over a few hundred thousand $.

We just bought property in Chame and closed on Monday march 5th. We used Juan Vallarino . Nice size firm in Panama City. He was very informative and responsive. Very impressed with him.

I think it is important to go with a well-known company. Don't go with any old lawyer just because one or two people recommended him to you. There are a lot of people and lawyers who want to scam you.

I looked at the Decastro and Robles website and it seems as though your firms primary business is Maritime law. Real Estate seems to be a footnote. Just an observation.

What is Maritime law?

It might be better to go with a lawyer that specializes in real estate if that is what you are using the lawyer for.

They specialize in shipping/trade. There really are differences in the attorneys specialties. It is a matter of how well they are connected in a particular field. Just because they can do it does not mean they have allot of experience or contacts throughout the country with the old land owners.

I am sure your firm is qualified to do real estate, I just made an observation regarding your website. It does seem more geared towards Maritime Law.

I also never stated that law firms specialize in just one field but lets face it, your "About the Firm" page shows what appears to be a large cruise ship and 80 percent of the text of the text directly talks or refers to Maritime. For all I know Real Estate is 80% of your business but you would not know it from your website. Decastro & Robles Attorneys at Law

My advice: if your going to choose one based on recommendation, make sure that the person did a transaction which a scammer would normally screw you over in, and that you know the person well. Also check any connections between that individual and the lawyer. Sometimes people will say "yeah he's a friend of mine" but they actually just speak with the person at a place, and not really conduct business with them nor actually know them well.

In my experience, no bad news is generally good news.

So good so far, Bel-Air..

Even if you don't intend to use the firm any time soon, it's a great site just for the information -- there's tons!

Cheers

Import - export specialist

So... MrWooHoo...

Is there a specific attorney that you would recommend that has knowledge of import laws/regulations.

I have a list of 3 so far... but I might as well be picking them blindly from the yellow pages since I don't have any recommendations.

Thanks,

Javi

If anybody else is interested in my attorney I will happy to "PM" them. Once he starts paying me for advertising I will list him publicly.

What about the
lawyers giving the immigration papers.

Are there always trustworthy?

Maybe they `ll give You immigration documents, which aren`t really valid for the administration?

By the way:
Where is a list/catalogue of
all things we have to bring to Panama
to get the immigration papers
for living in PANAMA?

THX

The lawyers here are not always trustworthy. I do hear stories about lawyers that take your money then take FOREVER to accomplish the task. It seems as though there are several law firms being represented in this forum or if you wish I can put you in contact with my attorney. Like I have mentioned before he is efficient, well-connected, speaks excellent English, and is really good at handling business via email. He actually represents Phillip Morris (Marlboro Cigarettes) in Panama. Big tobacco usually gets the good attorneys. He can handle your immigration. Send me a message if you wish.

Expensive?

How much me and my wife have to pay for the immigration papers?
