    Plaza Paitilla Inn

The Plaza Paitilla Inn is a great place...i spent $50 per night,,their website now says from $65....it's across from a mall with a movie theatre...about 30 minutes from airport overlooking the Pacific...they have a wonderful buffett breakfast for $7.00 and nice large, clean rooms.
Let me know how you like it...

Panamaking, that Plaza hotel you recommend sounds great! And at that price!! Do they have a website I can go to so I can check them out? Do they have internet connection in the rooms?

HOTEL PLAZA PAITILLA INN - Mejor Ubicación...Mejor Vista...Mejor Tarifa!!!

Last time I was there they did have wireless Internet. The building seems a bit shaky though but maybe that was just my impression.

I think this would be a great place to be because I can’t live without Internet these days! What is it about the building being shaky? Is it an old place?

Shaky? We were located really high up in the building--and I felt that it was securely built...or perhaps you were referring to the fact that the builders did not spend a lot on the interior facades? If so, then I'll go with 'shaky.' Some seriously cheap fake wood paneling is used in corridors and public spaces, but that is more than made up for by the floor-to-ceiling windows in many of the rooms. I was in a huge room w/two double beds, large dressing area and mini-bathroom for about $75 a night. Not amazing, but you ARE close to a lot of things; well located for the mall--it's..well, a mall--every store you can think of, a mini-casino, large food court (prices comparable to the U.S. unfortunately,) movies, etc., and really helpful bilingual doormen and concierge staff @ the hotel. Cabs are plentiful & cheap, $2 to Panama Viejo, El Cangrejo, and all the casinos and restaurants that you would want. Our room had what was probably an awesome view of the Bahia de Panama before all those skyscrapers started going up in front of it...but all in all--a good place to stay if you are checking out the city for a few days. Look for the hotels w/kitchenettes and meal plans if you plan to stay longer than 4 or 5 days. The P.P. Inn also has a rather busy convention and party schedule--not that noise is a problem in the rooms, but it can sometimes make for an adventure getting in and out of the hotel.

Sounds good, but now the website says from $95 plus 10%.... seems like the prices in Panama is getting out of hand...

    Re: Plaza Paitilla Inn

Anyone been to Plaza Paitilla Inn lately? Would anyone who has been there (recently) still recommend it due to its location, price, amenities, etc? Or would you recommend a different place nearby to stay in Panama City, especially now that this once "skyscraper" hotel has been overshadowed by so many taller neighbors?

I havn't been there since '03, but I can't imagine the price/amenities being that much less attractive than back then. As for the effect of it's taller neighbors, while the bay views may be somewhat limited, the skyline views facing the coastal beltway and Ancon hill remain unobstructed and breathtaking, as evidenced by the fact that you can see the hotel from Balboa Avenue at Paitilla point.

I've tried unsuccessfully to stay there several times over the years. Their website reservation system was non-existent. Basically, you emailed them when you wanted to stay and they would let you know (days and days later!) On some planned trips, there were no rooms available, but that was fairly common years ago. But, I like the non-chain, non-American hotels, as long as they're clean and hope I make it there sometime!

I don't think it presents much of an advantage in terms of location, but I like to be able to walk to restaurants and bars.
