hotel comment to doc
Doc, I recently visited Panama for first time and stayed in the Casino area (Torres del Alba), near the Veneto casino. The street noise from taxi's honking was terrible. Even on tenth floor you could hear till the wee hours. I do not have a recomendation for you other than avoid this area if you want to sleep.. What part of Texas??

Hello from a new registrant
Hola!
I have been living in Panama for most of 2008 and enjoy life here thoroughly. I have been meaning to sign up on this forum for quite a while and happened to follow a link here today and decided it was time to sign up and get involved.

Good afternoon to all you fine folks on the "Panama forums" I want to compliment all of you who have already made the move to Panama and will be looking for some help and recommendations when I come to visit Panama this winter, probably February / March 2009.
I am not an really hot weather person, living in Alaska for the past 30+ years might have something to do with it, so I leaning more towards the Volcan area.
In a perfect transition, I would like to acquire an acre of property, if possible, and maybe have some coffee bean plants for my "garden" project.
My favorite past time is riding my Harley whenever I can. The feeling of being on two wheels is something you have to experience yourself to really appreciate the feeling.
I have a zillion questions about living in Panama, especially in the higher elevations, but will save those for later.
I'm retired from the State of Alaska so want to apply for the retiree program they have there.
Thank you in advance for your time and I appreciate your replies / suggestions.
Butch

Harley from Tampa, Florida USA, retired from the military 3 years ago at 38 years old. Sick of the goverment I worked for for 20 years and DREAD the new President so I'm ready to move. I want to live at or near the beach but cant afford it here! My Cuban/Irish girlfriend and future wife used to live in Costa Rica and my former step-father owns a home in Bogota, Columbia. They both say "go to Panama". Our plan is to save $2k per month and sell my home to profit $100k and move there in 4 years after my twin daughters graduate. We'll have goverment insurance and $2k a month income. Hopefully the $175k we save and profit from our home will leave us with no land or house payment? Suggestions?
God bless!

Hey Harley...we have somewhat similar interests and status. I'm headed that way in about two years with family. Send me a PM and I'll swap details.

Hi Kalengirl . . . Hope you all the best here on Panama Forums. Where are you in Panama? Do you have any "expertise" in the Volcan area? That's where I want to visit and possibly relocate in the near future.
What do you know about riding motorcycles in Panama? I know there is a Harley dealer in Panama City but that's the extent of my knowledge about it.
Anyway . . . welcome to the Forum . . . Butch

My name is Allen. I'm from Canada, now living in David. I have a real estate company -- Chiriqui Coastal Real Estate (chiriquicoastal.com). I also have 4 small development projects in Chiriqui province -- one in Caizan (near Volcan), one in the town of Las Lajas, and 2 near Boca Chica. Lots and houses, also condos in a year or two. I will be building 5 small houses in Las Lajas town in the next several months and am starting on an ocean-view project near Boca Chica with lots and houses this winter.
