    Don Winner's Panama Guide

The formula is very simple, reproduce articles from other sources about Panama for content, sell advertising space and delete all unwelcome comments.

His site, his rules. I enjoy most of it. It's got a lot of news I wouldn't see otherwise.

Winners blog rocks and I read it daily. His business model is simple and has very little competition. If there were other competitive blogs I would still read don's, ever since he got after Socialist Okke Orenstein with a stun gun I have been a big fan!!!!

I agree. He seems to be a very "special" character, but I enjoy his site. A lot of interesting and good info.
One thing that I don't like about him is his assertion that the real estate market is doing fine(when it really isn't) maybe because he gets lots of ads from real estate agencies.

any media that has ads is usually very careful on what they print , they need the ad dollars to keep coming in , that is why it is really hard to get true news off of the TV or news paper , just follow the money

    Re: Don Winner's Panama Guide

Be careful. Don Winner is popular but he is very slanted in his writings. You won't get the full story reading his site, borderline fraudulent. He paints Panama in the brightest light which makes for good reading, but he needs to be more balanced and neutral. He also censors comments and will ban you if you say anything not to his agreement or liking. He's tabloid and that's what makes him so popular.

I like his tough attitude against crime. He should be appointed commander in chief of the Panama City police.

You are right Ed. It's either his way or no way. He's definitely a very right wing person.

Of course he does, and we have a right to call out Mr. Winner for what he is. A lot of people regard his site as the bible of Panama and I think that is a bad thing. He has serious conflict of interest and is not an unbiased reporter or commentator. He is very ill informed about many facts and whether he hides the truth on purpose or is just plain ignorant, I don't know. He has a political and financial agenda to promote Panama, Martinelli, defunct projects such as Malibu Beach Club, and gold mines such as Petaquilla. I'd like to see more balanced reporting out of him before I take him seriously.

Let's face it, he is not a journalist and I doubt anyone would want to read much of his stuff if it wasn't sandwiched between articles sourced from other publications.

    Attachment 350

I started reading panama-guide middle of last year before coming here, had some utility value with the news reprints. I still check it once a month or so. The rest of the stuff is worthless and annoying. I tuned out with the whole serial killer thing, and the Jerry Hall thing, and whatever else. Winner's vicious character attacks are grade A douche-bag , or bolso de ducha and I just skip those parts. That being said, I've met a few very odd characters in Panama. The calm, well adjusted expat with no abnormal social tendencies or aggressive behavior seems to be a a rare beast. It could be the bars I go to though... :P

    Re: Don Winner's Panama Guide

Yes, that could explain it Gwilson but I have met a lot of expats in Panama who have something that they are running away from back home. Not surprisingly, they don't tend to talk about it much with new acquaintances. Thankfully, I know enough well adjusted ones without a suspicious past to hang out with and avoid the obvious 'characters' when I am in those kind of bars. .

    Re: Don Winner's Panama Guide

What I like about this forum is that it doesn't kow- tow to the likes of Juliettte Passser and will print her emails threatening the site which illustrate the kind of unhinged, screaming banshee that she is. Don Winner however, does bow down to her and has removed any negative comment about her on the Panama Guide. Obviously, beyond the rare piece lifted and translated from the Prensa about Alexandre Ventura he has no interest in publicising (preferring to suppress) a multi -million dollar blatant real estate scam in Panama that involves three Canadian citizens and a US attorney with offices in Panama City who is still selling real estate here.

Mr Winner has little command of the English language to recommend him, he should really confine himself to translations of more coherent writers.

    Re: Don Winner's Panama Guide

I do like sportsbook! Actually that might be the best thing his site ever did was show me that place. Waiting for hockey season to crank up now. I could really go for a cubetazo of panama right now. The rest of the ads I couldn't comment on. There was at least one obvious real estate rip off. I don't mind him shilling for crooks though, man's gotta get paid. I'm surprised no one has gone into the taser incident...nobody in their right mind does a thing like that. When you view the other stuff on there in light of something like that it all makes sense.

    Re: Don Winner's Panama Guide

It would be great to get a response from Don Winner himself since I know he reads this forum. Everything I said about him is factual and true so there isn't anything he can refute. I don't like frauds. Panama has a HUGE problem with conflict of interest and frauds. Innocent people get burned. That isn't right. Panama is a beautiful country marred by unethical people including foreigners and locals alike. When Don Winner was pumping the sausage law because he worships Martinelli and has a bone to pick with the PRD, I made some valid counterpoints to his glowing review of the new law and he would not post my comments because he knew I was right and could not win a debate with me. The word coward comes to mind. Well at least in this forum, I can speak the truth and not be censored. So eat that Don.

Nothing in from Mr Winner, perhaps the absence of a delete button for dissenting views puts him off?

It seems that Don has found nothing to put through the translator about the TOC lawsuit yet.

    Re: Don Winner's Panama Guide

Don Winner is one sick and twisted individual:

    http://www.panama-guide.com/article....01220140432200

Apparently a reader sent him an e-mail that disagreed with one of his articles and Don Winner goes on this vengeful tirade and worse yet his minion followers gang up on this poor lady in the comment section. First off Don Winner should respect the privacy of e-mails sent to him. Secondly he should respect opposing opinions and agree to disagree if you will. Now Mr. Winner has dragged the lady's family into the melee including her daughter. He is using his popular Panama Guide website to get revenge on people and that is a disgrace. For Christ sakes he is showing where this lady lives on Google maps. WTF is wrong with this Don Winner guy? What are they adding to the water in Panama to cause such instability?

BTW, I'm starting to love Panama after getting past the hump. It's a steep learning curve, but once you get past the trials and tribulations then things are for the most part smooth. But people like Don Winner and his boot licking minions make me embarrassed to be an expat living in Panama.

Glad to hear things are getting a little easier for you here Felicity. I know that in previous posts you have made mention about some of the "neighbor and workman issues" that you have had. Just out of curiosity (and for other potential expat knowledge) what has been the turn-around for you? I am in total agreement that there is a huge learning curve to being able to live here. Very happy to hear things are better and Merry Christmas.

    Re: Don Winner's Panama Guide

One key in Panama is to never let anyone develop a position of power, be it an attorney, mail forwarding company, bank, landlord or contractor and also to minimize all interactions with Panamanians and Panamanian companies when the results and execution are critical to your business (buy bread from, clean cheap stuff under supervision - good idea; handle business critical documents, organize things - bad idea).

Felicity, by the way, you might want to get a cat scan of your brain or similar given your extreme mood swings :-).
