Is there any typical food in Panama that us tourists may want to try?

Some places do have foods that can upset your stomach if you are not used to them. Of course, most tourist places won't serve such dishes.

I think one of the most important things about going on holiday is the quality of the food. It has to have good food or else the rest of the holiday takes a fall from the lack of nice food. I have been to Spain and this one apartment block we were staying in served terrible food and it started to put a downer on our holiday so we just started walking far to the town and eating at good restaurants, the holiday seemed to improve after we started eating delicious food.

I agree that the food is important, but I find that most tourist stops make sure to have great food and other accommodations.

I'm usually willing to try something once. I've never had a problem with food. If I don't like something, I just won't eat anymore of it.

I'd recommend for all first time visitors to try patacones (also good for vegetarians, and vegans). They are very Panamanian and quite delicious.. but also addictive!

3 green plantains*
1 teaspoon salt
Oil

Peel plantains and cut into ½ inch slices. Fry in hot oil until golden. Place on cutting board and smash the slices with a glass bottle or rolling pin. Sprinkle with salt and return to pan to fry again. Fry until crispy. Drain on paper towels and serve immediately. Ketchup is optional! 6-8 Servings.

* Plantains are similar to bananas, but harder and not sweet. They are usually green or yellow-brownish in color.

It taste good. But however I prefer sea-food over other. I love eating different food, no matter where I am. I have been to many countries around 30 and tried a large varities of food. Sometime , some food may upset my stomach but still I prefer going for those because for me,at the end of the day what matters is the taste. I am completely foodie...
