Anyone know of descent San Blas hostels?

My wife and I decided to add San Blas to our agenda. We've seen all we can on the internet sites, but recommendations from this forum is the most reliable. Don't want to mortgage the house to pay for lodging as some resorts seem way to expensive for our budget. Not looking for fancy, more so the real deal, locals, maybe home stay or inexpensive hostels. We're just going to stay for 3 days before we head to the Pacific side. Any ideas out there? Thanks, Dennis

The San Blas is a Comarca and the Kuna have been granted exclusive rights there. They offer several places to stay, none of them super cheap, some pretty expensive. Also, not cheap to get there. All that said, I've never heard ANYONE complain after going there! Wonderful people, islands rivaling Tahiti, and certainly much cheaper than the South Pacific!

Thank you Calvin. I realized it wasn't cheap and have heard some of the same comments about how beautiful it is. Therefore wife says were going, and I agree with her. Will be a once in a life time deal for us. I'll keep up my search and let the forum in on any pricing I find.

If you can afford it the sailboat charter is a great way to go. You sleep in a bug-free environment on a decent bed every night, have running water (hot and cold), get great food and usually all the bevies one needs. You see the best beaches and snorkel in the great spots. For a once in a lifetime experience it is superb, but tough if you are on a budget. We used San Blas Sailing three years ago.

I saw that one Gary. It was the best way to go, we are still kicking it around. Anything San Blas is expensive from what i"v seen.. We'll be in Panama for 2 months, so we'll just save it for the end, we'll have gathered more info. Thanks

i might can help you... a friend of mine sended me this website....they offer trips to san blas and they have different options for hotels to stay... Maybe with this website you can find some decent places to stay...

ROLLER COASTER - HOSPEDAJES (the website is in spanish)

I stayed once at Kuanidup and payed 70 dollars for hotel&meals... but we were with a big group and the toilet was just a hole with the sea underneath it...
    Todo esto es vida, vivela!
