Question buying an island

Does anyone have any information on buying an island in Panama? It is off the coast of Bocas (30 miles). I am wondering if building costs would be a lot higher. Also if anyone knows costs of clearing the land, solar, water, etc. I would like to have several small cabanas to rent out. I am just not sure if I could make enough to make it worth it.
Thanks for any info

I assume the building costs would be a lot higher considering that the materials would all have to be shipped out to island. Additionally, the workers would probably have to travel back and forth.

Cost will be higher for sure . If your lucky you may be able to find workers on your island that have some building talent ,Don't bet on it .. Indians are the best workers . What ever you do , do not hand over the supervision of the work to someone else . You must be there . (Voice of experience on that statement ). You will want to stay if possible on the property or have a trustworthy caretaker 24/7 during the building process . Get yourself a Cayuco cause you are going to need one for heavy items you will need . They are the work truck of the sea .
A lot of times the workmen just stay on the property,in huts, while building .
Don't forget about building permits even if you are 30 miles out . The word travels fast and the fines can be big for illegal building !!!

thanks for the input. I was looking at Ambergris Cay in Belize and they have several companies that build pre-fab wood homes (2 bd 1 ba for about $13,000 US) anything similar in bocas area that may be able to be barged to an island?

There's nothing even close to that in Bocas unless your talking a single wall construction shack .

Are you sure it is only $13,000?

Maybe that is the cost of building it, but not the cost of materials.
