Over at The Panama Guide this was a 'hot stock'. On January 13th 2011 it had this to say:

"I just peeked at the Petaquilla stock price again. Two days ago it was at $1.15 and right now it's at $1.29 - up another 5.73% just today. I hope you were smart enough to get on back in early November when it finally turned around for good. Anyway, when you're rich and famous don't forget to flip me a nickel... "

Curiously, since then there has been no reference to the stock price. Perhaps that is because today's price is er down at .8241.

Hence: $20,000 invested in PTQMF on 13 January 2011 would be worth $12,776.74 today. -

Whereas: $20,000 invested in gold on the same date would be worth $26,000 today.

I cannot see how a company that has amassed $150,000,000 in losses ($50,000,000 in the three years ending May 2011) continues to operate. Oh yeah, it just prints more stock and sells it for what it can because everyone knows investing in gold is the smart thing to do. Net Income of $5.0 Million ain't gonna move the needle materially.

Petaquilla is now at 64.5, exactly 50% down since the plug at $1.29. Here is how it has performed against gold and the gold miner's index.

Friday Jan 13th will be the one year anniversary of the plug. Closing today at .6251 it is looking like taking Panama Guide's' advice will have lost you more than half your money.

Yes, Friday's close was .61, a loss of just over 52%.

He's one of those idiots that evaluates a stock investment along the lines of: "It's less than a $1 a share!" Somehow that seems to make it a bargain, like the crap sold in a "Dollar Store." AA shares? Ouch. Besides the low price the attraction here was probably that he thought he was getting the inside track as the mine is in Panama.

Hey Ed -- since you posted this on September 21, 2011, look like $20,000 would now be less than $6,400 based on $.41 per share.

Well, wonder what the investors feel like flipping the tipster now, they have lost over 2/3 of their investment..

The good news is that the company is now operating profitably.

The bad news is that the company continues to issue new stock diluting ownership.
