I just learned that employment of a Panamanian without a contract constitutes by default "indefinite employment" when brought before the Department of Labor.
That should make everybody think twice if that would be a good idea.

I don't think that applies to non live-in maids, handymans and so on.
I learned this in the context of a business.(not mine) Stated by a representative of the Department of Labor. Manifested in a letter issued by the company. The news is to fresh to tell what the Department of Labor might issues to document this fact. I can not make a comment as this may relate to domestic labor or independent contractors.
