What Happens If the Dollar Crashes - BusinessWeek
I actually met with a forum member today and he made mention that it would actually make Panama very attractive to investors that hold currency other than US dollars.
I keep seeing more and more articles in regards: Soros says U.S. economy will be drag on world growth | Reuters
Thats the thing about the dollar crashing - it depends on what it crashes against. My money is divided into dollars and pounds. So for me, if the dollar strengthens then dollar income can be converted into pounds. If the dollar weakens then pounds back into dollars. It has really protected me quite a lot (knock on wood) from the worst of the crisis. Presumably diversifying into several currencies would make it more complicated to deal with but safer again, which i guess is the reasoning behind this basket of currencies idea for a world reserve currency.
But on what Soros says - i begin to wonder about these rich men, governments and regulation. Rolling Stone has an excellent article on what happend to Bear Stearns and Lehmann...
Wall Street's Naked Swindle : Rolling Stone
Sweet article.
Give it another 2-3 months and the double-dip recession will make its showing. Who know where things will move then. I think Europe will be hit harder than the USA as far as currency.
Otherwise US properties will fall a total of 90 % (FL, NV) from the peak in Euros.
Best wishes, Ed
PANAMA BANK GUIDE - LIST OF BANKS IN PANAMA
I don't think the dollar will crash right away. I will say history has shown as far back as the Roman Empire that creating to much currency does eventually hurt it's value.
wouldn't Panama suffer just as much as the US, if the dollar crashes?
Panama being a dollar based economy...
It would still be destructive to Panama considering the amount of US paper being held in the banks and by the country itself. There again that is the dilemma being faced by everybody that holds US dollars.

Lol Newsweek , as if they are not puppets of the government.
History always repeats itself because the people in power are always the people in power. The US Economy and Politics are slowly going the way of Gremany. Remember the guys wheel barrows full of money to buy bread?
& Its all the plan of the ages..!
Very sad for humanity --- But a great first post here NO![]()
Being back in the states over the holidays after almost 2 years I saw how the cost of food and drink went through the roof.
Yeah WH
We have been away for two years now and in Peru we were spending a total of $300 for everything , $50 more if we drank beer that month.
We are dreading moving somewhere else but we are going to have to - Two years in this country and they are looking funny at us. To bad we dont have the money to get a residency here.
BTW How much is fair housing in the Panama - We need internet to work though?
Hello to Panama...Served in Panama '71 - '72 ---- ready to retire down there....hopefully in 9/10----ra
USA is a country with many +++++ & few ---- If the $$ crashes, imagine Europe or even China!!.....my guess is that the economy will be growing positive for 2 years and then, for obvious reasons Obama will try to socialize the country a little more...that will be the end for incumbents & a conservative coalition will strengthen the Republic!!!! --- USA has so much potential that it will stand up again, so let's not worry too much....ra
Has anybody else noticed the "Loonie" (Canadian dollar) is almost now on par with the US dollar? Watch out if you are holding to much US paper.
I grow more nervous every day in regards to US financial solvency for the long term. I love the USA, but I see a country that is becoming much more like the European regions our forefathers fled to America for in the first place. My family has been here for many generations-we still have the original land grants from the king of England- but it looks like it is past time to discover a new frontier.
I started reading about the economic problems that were going to hit the US (and the rest of the world) back in 2000'. Two really good websites I found were The Daily Reckoning - Entertaining Ideas on the Economy, Markets, Gold, Oil and Investing Strategies and the other was Asia Times Online :: Asian news hub providing the latest news and analysis from Asia
SpineDoc (04-05-2010)
The canadian dollar hit parity with the US dollar in early morning trading.
I just saw that this morning, 1 Loonie = 1 Greenback
"This afternoon, we realized that deep down, our feelings had changed: we had stopped worrying about a resumption of the bear market."
Stop Worrying About the Financial Crisis
(Here is a little link to an article to make yourself feel better)
I do believe the Loonie is now worth more than the Greenback.
