    Panama and IT professionals ?

Hi, Im new here and I was wondering is there a lot of computers in panama ?

I live in Canada and i'm a good networking technician, making a good salary for my age(I'm only 20). I will move to Panama eventually, and I wanted to know if there's a chances that I could get a job in the IT field. I speak french, english and slowly learning spanish. I have a Cisco certification (CCNA) and will be getting Microsoft MCSE.

Hi Nat, with your qualifications you can make some decent money here. Keep in mind the country is WAY behind the times with computers. If you want to make good money though you will need to live in Panama City. There are not allot of networks outside of the city. Panama City is in desperate need of computer professionals. I might even suggest getting yourself a copy of Windows in Spanish and start learning the language that way. I am sure you will probably be able to find plenty of work assisting the English speaking communities computers as well.

    Best of luck

Thanks for the advice, getting some Operating System in spanish is a great idea. I kinda knew the I would have to live in Panama city cause it seems it's the only modern place down there. One thing that I've heard is that Panama promotes the employment of local people so i'm not sure about how buisness works there but I'm not too worried about that. I'm planning a trip during holidays this winter so i guess i'll see !!!
    see you later guys

The only certification that will get you anywhere in any country is the cisco - but it also sounds like your bragging about your girth too, which makes this funny!

You expressed yourself fine Nat. My suggestion would be to start a corporation. Work for yourself, no problems.

Working for yourself often requires a decent ammount of start up captial, plus you need a portfolio first. I would work for a company and then work twords working for yourself.

Ya, I will probably end up working as tech support or something like that in the first time to get some experience with the local community. Money is not really an issue since I've already started to save up and with the cheap cost of life down there makes it even easier.

Nat, you may not be able to work for somebody whatsoever as an employee. Concentrate on starting a corporation and working for yourself. Even if you were able to get a job working for somebody it will not pay anything. Dont worry about a portfolio, all you need are skills. I am not sure where Geekz is getting his info from but I personally dont feel it is accurate. Once again that is my personal opinion and I am sure there are other people in this forum that would agree. Unless of course Geekz is offering you a work permit and a job?

    Salude
