Best area to purchase building lots?

Hello Folks, I am coming down to Panama towards the end of 10/07. I am looking for the best place to purchase either building lots or some property that I can resell in the near future. I already have a good feel for the country, Boquete is beautiful but getting really expensive, Panama city is to crazy to want to drive in, and Bocas is a little more rustic than I want. Any comments or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

There is Valle de Anton where you have nice fresh air... it's similar to Chiriqui. How much are looking to spend? For example, in Boquete there are projects with lots of about 600mts2 for about 65K each. Also, if you are looking for something a little bit closer to Panama City there is Altos del Maria in Chame (about 45 min. from the city) and they sell land with or without houses. There is another place called Chica en Capira, also with a fresher (less humidity) climate and it's about an hour from the city.

Re:Purchasing land

Hello Lee, thanks for the response. I have traveled Panama already somewhat and have actually driven from Panama City all the way out to Volcan, David, Boquete, Bocas, and back to Panama City. I do like the highlands but have not checked out the beach all that much. I would like to find somebody that knows something about Los Santos or Veraguas provinces. Thanks again for the info and maybe I will see you down there.

I think the beach properties are in high demand and as a result they are very highly priced. You may find a better deal on the innerparts of the country.

Punta Barco lots

This is a village just outside of Coronado and near the beach, so less than an hour from PC. We have 5 lots and will be building on 4 of the lots (one for our own house!) but will sell one 'lot only' if a buyer wanted to build on his own. I think you'll find the area ideal with its access to business amenities, the beach and the mountains and yet quite affordable. The lots have electric at street, access to a high speed tower for internet, tv, phone and approved well and septic plans. Reply for more info.
El Valle is another area to look at but the road is quite steep and winding - not for the faint of heart! Nice and cool up there and a lovely little town - rather European in flavor. Further from the beach but most people up there are happy to stay up there and travel down once a week for shopping, etc. The road is much better, though, than that going up to Altos del Maria.
Finally, we love Fonda Esmerelda in San Carlos........ beautiful but very expensive. Someday we hope to build there but can't afford it just yet.
We know nothing of the western end of Panama or the Caribbean coast. We came to this area on a whim but found that we love the totally dry, hot, bugless winter (well actually summer to Panamanians) and the beautiful coastline. We also needed to be within an hour of the city to do business more easily. Everything but everything is in PC, alas.
Happy hunting! If you'd like to hear more, let us know! Use caution with realtors... get references from trusted friends.

Sora Alpina

Is that the area I was talking about.... a few hundred yards East of El Rey and going North from the autopista? I love that area and if weren't already developing in PB I'd look up there.

I'll look at your lots, too, because people are always looking.

It is good to hear that area is developing outside of it's gated town.

I've laughed about the gated community concept. People think they are safer or more elite by locking themselves in, but there are as many burglaries within those gates as outside. Two couples that I know in Coronado were robbed - the latest was while they were sleeping! The bandits unscrewed the security window and climbed in! And our other friend had bags of cement taken from his driveway, inside a gate, in the middle of the night while they slept inside. I've heard of several other break-ins of people I don't know.
Security needs to be built into your home and exterior lights need to be automatic no matter where you live. And having a big ugly dog helps!!! Sometimes I think you are safer in the older country neighborhoods where people look out for one another instead of in a gated community where most of the people are hardly ever there in their 'summer homes' or they are 'snow bunnies' like us who are only here half the year.
but there will always be people who need the psychological protection of a gate.

I completely agree with you sunman6. I personally am glad that I took the time to actually experience the country and find out about the people themselves. The further you are from Panama City the safer you are. The interior towns are pretty peaceful and the locals are extremely nice and do look out after each other. Most of the interior has that small town "Barney Fife" feel, and I personally like it. I really feel safer in the interior and being the token "white guy" is pretty fun. When it comes to gated communities it usually is created for old folks from the US that are scared of the people but are moving into their town and will surround themselves with razor wire to keep them out. It's a pet peeve of mine as well.
