    Photos of Bocas del Torro

Hi! I just found some great photos of Bocas del Torro on flickr.com.

These photos are from users: gleefully3vil, Nica Chica Mignon, Ant & Carrie's Excellent Adventure and gpswope respectively.

    Enjoy!

Thanks for sharing these pictures with us. I love all the photos featuring the sea. It is really refreshing to look at the crystal clear water. It’s as if it is inviting me to take a plunge!

Those are very good photos. Most of them look like they were taken by professionals. Who took the photos?

Heres a couple of favorites of Mine . One is a sloth on our property . We have a whole family living in the trees . The other is Trigger , a Ocelot, that a neighbor friend has . He likes to use my leg as a catching post .

What's an Ocelot? It looks like a cat. Are there any of them in the United States?

It is from the cat family . They are wild . This one has been returned to the wild but is still somewhat friendly .They are smaller than a Bobcat .They spent most of their time in trees . They eat birds and small rodents . I do not believe there are any in the States . Here's Trigger having fun with my daughter

Can you feed them cat food from the grocery store? Or, do you have to feed them birds and rodents?

    He looks playful!

Its best to feed them what they are use to in the wild . When Trigger was being reintroduced into the wild ,the new owner would take him hunting with a BB gun . When the birds or rodents were shot Trigger learned that was how to obtain his meal . Now he hunts on his own and we rarely see him .

I was going to ask the same thing.

How does a cat catch birds? Does he jump out of the tree or something? It seems like it would be hard, since the birds can fly and the cat cannot.

Have you ever owned a cat? Or seen a cat in your neighborhood hunt? Seen a cat on television? From lions and tigers to the little tabby down the street, felines hunt in the same manner; they wait and ambush. A bird stops to peck and something and cat jumps out of the bushes, a bird stops at its nest and a cat jumps out of the branches. A pack of wildebeest stop at a winding river for a drink of water, and two lionesses spring out of the bush to attack.

See the similarities? Cats are sneak attack predators; they wait until you least expect it...and then they jump in for the kill. You too can experience this first-hand by having a kitten anywhere near your toes--the slightest movement, and they will use their tiny (and very sharp) claws to 'attack the beast.'

    Cheers.

That's a shame because birds are fast, and they are usually very careful. They often fly away if I just look out the window at them. I guess the cats are faster.

    Gordon & Randy ,
I am sure there have been a few incidents ,but I bet there have been more dog bites than anything . You could step on a toxic snake or be bit by a spider ,I suppose . Just learn to pay close attention to your surroundings and you will be fine . I lived in the Jungle for 2 1/2 months while building my home .Even the locals thought I was nuts . It is full of all kinds of sounds and critters at night and I slept very little the first 2 or 3 nights . After a while the hidden senses picked up and I only awoke when something was not right or a new unidentified sound was made .
It was a learning experience for sure and I get a big laugh when I watch these knuckleheads on TV dramatize(SP) being in a jungle . They have not got a clue .......

lol Thanks. I was just curious because here in Canada there are a number of deaths every year due to bear, cougar and elks attacking humans. Often people who ignore warnings of course. Probably right about the dog bites though. I read a report showing that more people are hurt or killed by pit bulls in Canada than "wild" animals.

I remember I went to Alaska one time, and I was surprised that most people would bring a gun around with them in case of a bear, namely when going hiking, camping, or something like that.

The first and last photo were magnificent! It truly looks like a beautiful place, it has that tropic look. Those pictures look like they are straight out of a post card.

As for the pics with the animals, that cat looking creature looks like a mini tiger. It has a rather innocent look though, but at the same time it keeps the wild creature appearance. It's the first time I see such a thing..

Ever tried Scuba diving in Bocas del Toro? I bet you'll enjoy the experience. (Only for experienced guys though). Other than that the beaches are as perfect as it can get. Please see some of my random pics:

I can't scuba dive, so I probably won't get a chance to see those exotic creatures found dwelling in the ocean..

However, it does look fun! I wonder if they have some sort of similar program for a novice where you can go with someone experienced and they have some sort of special equipment so a newbie like me can still enjoy the scuba diving experience safely...

When i said "Only for experienced guys though", I didn't meant it. Most of the resorts in and around Bocas Del Toro offers Scuba Diving. And I should say that a considerable number of those who will be going for it will be novices. Don't worry about the safety. I never heard of any accidents happening during scuba diving. You can contact resorts like Starfleets Eco Adventures, Bocas Water Sports, La Buga Dive Center & Adventures for more information.

I was there last weekend. Stayed at a place called Punta Caracol (http://www.puntacaracol.pa). I highly recommend the place for a relaxing getaway and I also highly recommend liberal applications of Off! I'm dealing with about 200 (quite literally) bug bites because I'm hard headed. My girlfriend used Off! quite regularly and walked away with one or two. I had a blast on one of the neighboring islands at a place called the Pickled Parrot (last pic). Great people over there!

Here are a few pics from the trip.

All the photos are "great". Makes me want to pack my bags and head out right now, especially with the kind of weather we are having in my end of the world right now.

Many moons ago I did quite abit of snorkeling but never had any camera that could be used under water.

The pic of the little red frog is just "to cool" to put into words.

Thoroughly enjoyed all the photos . . . thanks for sharing!

WOW... the pictures under water are amazing! I mean the beaches are to die for but I'm crazy about scuba diving and those pictures just make want to take off right now
It looks like it's a great place for scuba. Did you take the pictures yourself?
