Here are some resources I found on the history of Panama. It's quite fascinating.

PANAMA THE NATION

Introduction to Panama

PANAMA CANAL

Panama Canal Construction 1934
It's in black and white and offers many details and numbers on the construction of the Panama Canal. Also with a great view of the canal before it was inaugurated.

NOVA: A Man, a Plan, a Canal - Panama (1987)
Amazon.com: NOVA: A Man, a Plan, a Canal - Panama: DVD: David McCullough,Carl Charlson

The Panama Canal Conflict between Great Britain and the United States of America
The Project Gutenberg eBook of The Panama Canal Conflict Between Great Britain and the United States of America, by Lassa Oppenheim

A close range study of the Panama canal and its workers

US INVASION

There are three parts, each is about 30 minutes. I haven't watched all three parts yet, but it's quite interesting and has the history of the US invasion in full detail. It might contain some violence.

Part 1 of Panama Deception

Part 2 of Panama Deception

Part 3 of Panama Deception

And WIKIPEDIA for an overview:
