The proper slang word for a bribe in Panama is MORDIDA (bite).
I grew up in California, and wouldn't have dreamed of bribing a cop. However, when I moved to Chicago in the 1960's, the police actually solicited bribes. It took me a couple of tickets before I learned this. In fact, I was going to have my license suspended. So I BRIBED THE JUDGE. A friend of mine was going to have his license revoked and serve a jail term for repeated DUI, but he got off by paying the judge $500.
It's tempting to pay police mordidas, but that makes you part of the downward-spiraling corruption problem.
