MIAMI ( WSVN) -- The start of the 2008 hurricane season is less than a week away, and a disturbance off the coast is already threatening to intensify. At 8 a.m. Wednesday, the National Hurricane Center reported a tropical wave creating severe weather, including flooding off the cost of Central America. Countries affected by the wave include Panama, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Honduras. Forecasters report that the wave is intensifying and showing some counter-clockwise rotation. It is moving in a north-northeastern direction and could gain strength becoming the first tropical depression of the 2008 hurricane season once it enters the Caribbean. (graphics follows)
